A Joyful Heart

On the ninth day of Christmas my heart was filled with joy.

The reality of this life on earth is not always good and sometimes it really is difficult to be joyful.

But the thing I have learned about joy, is that no matter what season we are in, God is wonderful and good.

He never changes even when our circumstances do.

When worry and fear grip me or anger and bitterness surface, God remains the same.

The things happening around us are the things that can make us feel happy.

But “Joy” is what remains, even when things don’t go the way we planned.

When we belong to Jesus we have joy deep in our souls, a feeling so deep it can overwhelm us at times.

Joy is given to us by the Holy Spirit, the bible declares that in Galatians 5:22,23. “The fruits of the Spirit is love, JOY, peace, Patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.”

When we allow the Holy Spirit to live in us there is a rejoicing that goes on in our souls.

Our circumstances don’t have to be what leads us, when Jesus lives in us there is a fullness of joy.

I remember a song I use to sing in Sunday school.

” I’ve got the joy, joy, joy, joy down in my heart. (shout) WHERE? down in my heart to stay and I’m so happy, so very happy, I’ve got the love of Jesus in my heart down in my heart”.

Anyone remember that song?

So when life seems to be full of negative emotions, things aren’t working out like you thought. Go to the word of God and begin to read who Christ is and as you get to know him more, you will begin to understand that JOY comes because of Jesus.

I’m not sure what your Christmas is looking like.

Perhaps you’re going through some struggles.

The bible is full of encouraging verses that can help you take hold of your joy.

James 1:1-3 “Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters when you face trials of many kinds.”

Romans 15:13 “May the Lord God of hope fill you with joy”.

I love what Paul wrote in Philippians 4:4,5 “Be full of joy in the Lord always.”

When we know our purpose in life and we understand who holds our life in his hand there is much reason to rejoice and be filled with joy.

May your heart experience the joy of the Lord.

Praying for you,
