It’s early morning on the eve of the New Year.
I look out my window, the sky is barely lit with the morning glow.
The clouds have descended, covering the mountain range. The cars are lightly dusted with the fallen snow.
It’s been a cold week, temperatures in the 20’s and the lows have been in the single digits.
But how I long for New Year’s Eve. It’s my favorite day out of the whole year and it’s also my grandson Eli’s birthday, he is turning 5 today. Birthday blessing to you my sweet boy.
For me It’s a time to reflect on the things that have happened throughout the year, good and bad.
I love to jot down the victories that were won and even the failures that tripped me up along the way.
It really has been a pretty good year even in the struggles.
I’ve laughed a lot this year hanging out with my grandbabies, they never stop amazing me and the joy they bring fills me up.
The birth of our granddaughter Isabella came with great anticipation as we waited for her arrival. She is beautiful and just a delight to have in our family.
I have treasured the friendships that have grown.
Walked closer with my God, and learned to love my family deeper.
I’ve learned some valuable lessons this year that I will take into the new.
All year-long fear tipped-toed behind me trying to capture me.
But I fought back using the word of God.
Psalm 27:1 “The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The Lord is the strength of my life, whom shall I be afraid?”
2 Timothy 1:7 ” For God did not give us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and a sound mind.”
God’s word sliced through every deception the enemy threw at me and there was victory.
The questions that has been hanging about in my thoughts whispered to my heart, ” What is your purpose for 2016?”
There are a lot of things I do in being a wife, mother, grandmother, writer, friend and in all of those roles I have purpose.
But still the question nudges me as though I must look deeper inside myself and find it, find the reason and the meaning for the year that is nearing.
I have thoughts and feelings and goals and dreams.
What is God’s purpose for me in 2016?
Every year I find a word that gives meaning to the events that take place during the year. This past year the word was “Renew.” I saw God renew so many things in my life, especially in my marriage.
The word renew means to return to, take up again, come back to, start again. (merriam-webster.com)
I watched as God brought a new meaning to my marriage, he gave us strength to start again in areas that were broken and looking back I am so grateful that both Tony and I allowed God to renew us.
I also trust God to give me a bible verse for the year that is my go to verse as I journey.
Isaiah 43:19 “For I am about to do something new. See, I have already begun! Do you not see it? I will make a pathway through the wilderness. I will create rivers in the dry wasteland.”
This verse helped remind me to look up and not stay focused on the past hurts or failures. It was the verse that was a constant reminder that God was up to something good.
Now here I sit hours before the new year and my word for 2016 is “Consecrate”
I looked up the meaning in the greek which is the word hagiazo’ meaning to make holy, sanctify, set apart as holy, purify, dedicate. (biblehub.com)
At first I thought hmmm… maybe that’s too big a word for me, but as God began to press my heart he was saying “Jamie, let this year be a year you consecrate everything to me that I call you to do. Do not walk in your own strength, but walk in mine and let all you do be set apart for me.”
I began to write out the word consecrate, I wrote in cursive, all capitals and print, I softly breathed a prayer,
“Lord I consecrate 2016 to you and all that you call me to do, be my strength as I trust you.”
My verse is Philippians 2:13 ” For God is working in you, giving you the desire and the power to do what pleases him.
It’s never too late to spend some time with God and ask him to show you his purpose for your life in 2016.
I’m looking forward to meeting some of you in the New Year, looking forward to hearing the good things that God is doing in your lives. I’m excited for the new journey to begin because with God, it’s going to be amazing.
He has a plan and a purpose for your life in 2016, don’t underestimate the power of the Holy One.
Eph 3:20 says,”Now all glory to God, who is able, through his mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think.”
May the lord give you a year filled with His glory, His goodness, and His purpose. As He strengthens you, arise and do all that He has called you to do in Jesus name. And don’t forget to look up, this just might be the year the Lord returns, are you ready?
Praying for you,
