Close Enough To Hear

longing for more

The rain falls heavily on my window today. The house is quiet once again. Deep in my heart there is an ache.

Does your heart ache?

I don’t mean the ache of a lost relationship or the ache of broken promises.

I’m aching for something more.

I wish to be sitting in front of you. I really mean that. I imagined you my reader, are my friend. I long to know you and to see deep into your heart to the place you rarely let anyone in.

Why you ask?

Because deep in your heart and my heart there is a story that needs to be told.

Tell me what you ache for?

Tell me your story.

Where is your beginning?

I want to feel your story in the salty tears you brush from your cheeks.

I want to hear the wild cries from your soul that longs for more than this. This life, this love, this struggle.

So I reach out to hold your hand like old friends do and I ‘ll ask the simple but daunting question?

Are you all in?

Does he have your whole heart?

Is the ache in your soul longing for more of Him?

You see, the story of your life is a story bound up deep in your soul and it sits and it waits to be told.

But day after day you carefully wrap up the day and once again place the story of this day down in the hollow of a forgotten book.

He sees you.

He knows you.

He aches for you.

Our hearts weave stories like threads of precious pearls coming from the deep blue ocean.

The pain and struggles you face are what he came for.

Will you trust Him to place the story of your life on display for all to see. Like the pearls of great price so you are to him.

Broken, bruised, forgotten?

He knows.

I know.

I know the person who longed to be loved. The human reaching for promises told.

The life you dreamed of when you were a small child. I too dreamed of goodness.

But we step into an unseen battle and on that battlefield we struggle to see the good, the great, the heroes.

But soon we too became the casualties of the unseen world and we are left broken, hating, fearing and turning on each other.

A heart jaded by time.

Your defenses are high and no one is allowed to see you, or hear you.

The real you.

You smile, pick yourself up and dust yourself off while closing off your heart. The very heart that pumps the velvet, scarlet liquid through your body.

The very heart that once was fearless and free.

The very heart that was made to feel, to love, to give and to serve has been shut off because your brokenness is too much for you to bear.

There it is.

Can you feel it?

The ache.

There is nothing in this world that can bring calm to the storm in your life, like Jesus.

There is nothing that will heal the Hurt in your heart like God Almighty.

There is no one that will bring peace to the unsure circumstances in your life but the Holy Spirit.

When you feel the ache in your heart don’t ignore it.

Psalm 34:18 “He is near the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit.”

Psalm 73:26 “My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.”

Isaiah 41:10 “Fear not for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”

There is no doubt that the aching in your heart is real.

I am praying for you today, that you will not let the ache slip away and move on to something else but that you will bring your hurt to the one who knows you by name and allow him to be close enough to feel the ache in your soul and strong enough to mend your broken heart.

Longing for more of Him,

This is an excerpt from a book I’m writing.
